Candle of Joy - December 12

This is the third Sunday of Advent.  We are lighting the candle of joy. Joy is a positive human condition that can be expressed as a feeling.

Joy is a feeling called forth by well-being, success, or blessing. A person automatically experiences joy because of certain favorable circumstances. Joy as a feeling cannot be commanded. The shepherd experienced joy when he found his lost sheep. The multitude felt joy when Jesus healed a Jewish woman whom Satan had bound for 18 years.

Luke 2:8-10:   In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night over their flock. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.  But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people."

As we light the candle of joy, may we be overjoyed with gladness in our hearts because the Messiah has entered the world.  Joy to the world, the Lord has come!
